Although this drink is absolutely delicious, it’s not difficult to make!
Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, pumpkin spice, apple cider and apple juice into your stock pot and bring to a simmer
Add sugar & stir slowly for 5-10 minutes until all the sugar is dissolved
Remove from heat to cool
Let stand for several hours to reach room temperature – adding the alcohol prematurely will force the alcohol content to evaporate and we don’t want that!
Once the mixture is at room temperature, stir in the 1/5 of Grain alcohol and rum.
At this point, you are ready to jar the apple pie “moonshine” in the mason jars. We used a make shift funnel concocted by Mr. Resourceful (he cut the top 1/2 of the cider bottle off ) and a strainer to bottle the liquid removing the cloves. We then added back a cinnamon stick in the jars.
This drink just gets better with time! The cinnamon and sugar blends out the alcohol taste so BEWARE!
** I know this is not real moonshine. We don’t have a pot still in our backyard,we didn’t boil mash, we didn’t distill anything, although I’m sure Steve would love it if we did. We used grain alcohol for convenience… In place of the grain alcohol, you can use vodka if you prefer. As a trial run, we made a very small batch with Makers Mark bourbon, that was delicious but quite costly for 7 quarts. **
