Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

Every evening I set my alarm with full intentions of getting up early to make Steve and I this grand breakfast and be productive around the house. In all reality, I snooze the alarm several times until I barely have enough time to brush my teeth and race out the door to work… Those eggs benedict just have to wait until another day, or several.

In acknowledgment of this issue, I try to keep breakfast items available to grab on the go; from breads to egg muffins to regular muffins – anything that will sustain us until snacktime. This week, I ventured into breads… not sure if it counts due to the chocolate, but with the past few months i’ve been having since the car accident, I thought it was OK to indulge a bit.

Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

1 hr 15 mins | Serves 6

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter; melted
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup+ chocolate chips (semi sweet or dark chocolate)

  • Preheat oven to 350* & Grease your 9×5 loaf pan
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda & sea salt; set aside
  • In a separate bowl, mash the ripe bananas (I just use a fork). Add in the melted butter & oil; stirring until combined.
  • Add in the brown sugar, egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
  • Pour mixture into the greased pan and sprinkle with the remaining chocolate chips
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean
  • Let cool on a wire cooling rack and enjoy!
